Furthest Reaches Purse-Green

$100.00

This handcrafted piece is woven on a traditional Zapotec pedal loom by Anna, a master weaver whose family has lived and woven on their ranch in the valley for more than 170 years. Her artistry reflects one of the most respected textile traditions in Oaxaca.

Made from hand-spun natural wool, the bag combines earthy, ancestral colors created using pericón (Mexican marigold) blended with indigo, along with the natural gray tones of local sheep’s wool. The result is a deep, rich green textile that carries the beauty of the land where it was born.

At the center is an embroidered Zapotec arrow symbol, historically tied to protection, provision, and hunting. The arrow also reflects the message of Psalm 127, where the next generation is described as “arrows in the hands of a warrior,” symbolizing legacy, purpose, and direction.

The geometric border patterns echo the mountain ridges and pathways of Teotitlán del Valle, grounding the design in the landscape and culture that have shaped generations of Zapotec artisans.

Sized at 16 x 16 inches, this piece includes durable leather straps and a fully lined interior with a zippered pocket, making it both functional and timeless.

More than a bag, it is a piece of heritage art—a reflection of Anna’s mastery, her family’s legacy, and the enduring beauty of Zapotec craftsmanship.
