Handwoven in the mountains of Oaxaca, where time stands still.
Every piece carries the warmth of heritage and hope.
For more than 170 years, in a narrow valley of Oaxaca where the morning light settles softly over adobe walls and dusty footpaths, the Chávez family has practiced the art of transforming wool into story. Their home sits at the intersection of land, lineage, and labor — a place where every color, every thread, every pattern begins long before it touches the loom.
The process starts with wool from nearby village sheep, animals whose coats reflect the rhythm of the seasons. The wool is brushed apart by hand by Grandma Ana a master weaver. On a wooden spinning wheel worn smooth by generations, the fibers twist into sturdy yarn — an ancient motion that has not changed in centuries.
But it is the dyes that anchor the work to this valley. They come from the land itself: the deep crimson of Cochineal bug, collected from tiny insects clinging to the nopal cactus; Marigold (pericón) and Marush, herbs, nuts and wildflowers gathered from the hillsides; the shadowed blues of indigo, charcoal , oak galls and iron and more.
Once dyed, the yarn carries the soul of the valley. It moves to the wooden pedal loom, where ancestral Zapotec patterns take shape in the hands of the artisan. Arrows, mountains, compass symbols, waves, sanctity of life — motifs that speak of God, direction, movement, protection, and landscape. These designs have been passed from elder to child within the Chávez family, each generation adding its own nuance while preserving the meaning threaded through time.
What emerges is more than a purse. It is a fragment of culture made tangible — a piece of Oaxaca that can be held, carried, and lived with. A woven map of land and lineage. A story that began long before this moment and will continue long after, moving forward one quiet thread at a time.

Rooted in ancient tradition, each piece begins with wool sheared from the sheep, brushed by hand, and spun on a wooden wheel. The colors are drawn from nature—plants, flowers, and cochineal from their land—and woven on looms passed down through generations. For over 2,000 years, this region of Oaxaca has told its story through thread—each fiber carrying heritage, hope, and redemption.
